Campion ’keeper Samuel stars in shoot-out win over Ryan

Riding high on custodian Samuel Tennyson’s heroics, Campion School (Colaba) beat Ryan International School ICSE (Kandivli) 2-0 via tie-breaker to book a spot in the quarter-finals of the boys U-16 Ahmed Sailor Dreams Sports MSSA inter-school knockout football tournament at Azad Maidan on Thursday.
The fixture was a tense, goalless affair in regulation time. Both sides had plenty of opportunities, but failed to find the decisive touch, sending the match into a penalty shoot-out.

The spot-kicks belonged entirely to Campion ’keeper Samuel. His moment came when he saved Bhawin Chandra’s strike down the centre and dived to his right to stop Dakshya Jha’s shot. Jayesh Jiwal and Aarush Singh also missed their kicks for Ryan. Samuel and Darren D’Souza made no mistake from the spot for Campion to secure a 2-0 victory.
In another boys U-16 Ahmed Sailor knockout encounter, Don Bosco High School (Matunga) cruised into the quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over Our Lady of Perpetual Succour. Harshal Devele, Naveen Ganeshan, and Harsh Birge scored a goal each for the Matunga outfit.
