Riyan Parag undergoes shoulder surgery; set for recovery ahead of return

Indian batsman and Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag is set to begin a rehabilitation program following successful surgery on his right shoulder. While an official timeline for his return to competitive cricket has not been established, the right-handed batter shared an update with his followers on social media after the procedure.
“Well, the shoulder finally won. For everyone who`s been asking, the surgery is done and went well. The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge. But I wouldn`t have wanted it any other way. Now comes a different challenge- recovery, rehab and patience. I`ll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side,” Parag wrote on Instagram.
Before the operation, Parag had been selected as the vice-captain of the India A squad for the current 50-over tri-series in Sri Lanka. However, a hamstring injury forced him out of the tournament, leading selectors to name right-handed top-order batter Ruturaj Gaikwad as his replacement.
Riyan Parag led Rajasthan Royals to a top 4 finish in the IPL campaign, but their journey was cut short in Qualifier 2, where RR was defeated by a Shubman Gill-inspired Gujarat Titans.

The hamstring complication had previously hampered the RR leader during the second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, forcing him to sit out a group-stage fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants.
He later hurried back to the lineup for Rajasthan`s critical, must-win final league match against the Mumbai Indians, an outing Parag later acknowledged playing through despite pain. He continued to feature in the side`s Eliminator and Qualifier 2 matches, though his physical discomfort was visible while running between the wickets.
According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, Parag had been consistently monitoring his fitness alongside the BCCI medical department, with surgery kept on the table as a final option. Although doctors suggested he could defer the operation, Parag decided to go ahead with the procedure after consulting with the medical staff.
