FIFA WC 2026: Cristiano Ronaldo sports custom gold boots before Colombia clash

Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo was seen preparing for action in new golden footwear ahead of his national team’s decisive final group phase match against Colombia on Saturday.
Following a clinical two-goal performance against Uzbekistan that signalled his return to form, the veteran attacker will aim to climb higher up the tournament’s top-scorer leaderboard.
Portugal currently occupies the second spot in their group, with four points with a win and a draw, and is set to face a high-flying Colombia side that has won both of its opening games. Securing a win will be vital for Roberto Martinez’s squad to guarantee their place in the Round of 32.
According to reports from ESPNFC, sporting giant Nike has created the unique ‘Gold Scorpion’ Mercurial Superfly 11 boots to celebrate Ronaldo’s historic achievement of scoring in six consecutive World Cup tournaments. The customised golden boots prominently display his famous ‘CR7’ branding in white text along the side.
Ronaldo made history against Uzbekistan
In their previous outing, Ronaldo spearheaded the Portuguese attack with a vital brace, while teammates Nuno Mendes and Rafael Leao also contributed goals. A costly error resulting in an own goal by Uzbekistan goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov added to the frustrations of Fabio Cannavaro’s team, allowing Portugal to claim their maiden victory of the FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.
Those two goals established Ronaldo as Portugal’s most prolific scorer in World Cup history with 10 total goals, eclipsing the legendary Eusebio’s previous record of nine. Eusebio, the 1965 Ballon d’Or winner, famously pushed the nation to a third-place finish at the 1966 tournament.
The match also cemented Ronaldo’s status as the only player to find the back of the net in six different editions of the World Cup, while snapping a 10-match scoring drought across major international tournaments, including the European Championship.
This dominant performance served as a vital rebound for the European side after they faced heavy criticism following a frustrating 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their tournament opener. The emphatic win successfully revitalised Portugal’s World Cup ambitions and provided a crucial lift to their goal difference heading into the final group match.
